This assessment gives you a starting point for choosing the right swim program. Your child may progress faster or slower than the estimate – instructors can always adjust placement after the first class. The next step is to contact our swim school for a free in‑water evaluation or to register directly for the recommended level. This tool is for general guidance; a professional instructor will confirm the best fit.
What is the difference between “Mom and Me” and “Beginners” classes?
Mom and Me classes are parent‑child programs focused on water acclimation, bonding, and basic safety through songs and gentle activities. Beginners classes are typically without a parent in the water, introducing independent skills like blowing bubbles, kicking, and assisted floating.
My child scored for “Survival Intensive” but has never taken formal lessons. Is that appropriate?
Survival Intensive classes are designed for children who are already comfortable in the water and can perform basic skills like independent back floating or short swims. If your child meets those criteria, they may be ready. If you are unsure, we recommend starting with a free in‑water evaluation.
What if my child is fearful of water?
The assessment is designed to place fearful children into Mom and Me or age‑appropriate beginner classes where patience and gradual exposure are emphasized. Instructors are trained to work with hesitant children. The goal is to build trust, not to push.
Can I register directly for the recommended class?
Yes, each result includes a direct link to view schedules and register. However, if you have any concerns about placement, you may request a free skill evaluation before committing to a session.
How often should I reassess my child’s readiness?
Children progress rapidly in the water. We recommend reassessing every 3–6 months, or whenever your child masters the skills listed in their current level. You can retake this quiz at any time.
Does this tool account for children with special needs or physical limitations?
The assessment provides general guidance based on typical developmental milestones. Children with special needs may benefit from private lessons or adapted aquatics programs. Please contact our office directly to discuss the best placement for your child.
What if my child falls between two levels?
Instructors will always confirm placement on the first day of class and can move a child to a more appropriate level if needed. The assessment is a starting point, not a final placement test.
